Los Andes is the capital of its province and the main logistics hub of the eastern valley: bus terminal, business base of the Los Libertadores corridor, and gateway to Portillo, Laguna del Inca and the Juncal Andean Park. It holds the valley's most acclaimed signature-dining scene and a growing railway, religious and military heritage.

Terrain
A valley city at ~820 m above sea level on the Aconcagua River, at the foot of the Andes. Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters; the foothills shape its access to the mountains.
Recommended season
Year-round as an urban base. Mountains (Portillo/Juncal): skiing Jun–Sep, trekking Dec–Mar. Santa Teresa feast (Rinconada, 12 min away): July.
By car
Route 57 (Los Libertadores Motorway) from Santiago: ~85 km, 1h10. Parking downtown and free at the hotel.
By public transport
Pullman Bus Costa Central and Buses Ahumada from Terminal Alameda / Los Héroes. ~1h45, CLP 4,000–6,500. Every 30–45 min. Central base, walkable from the terminal.
